As a result of the collaboration with the Plegadis Foundation, we are able to offer you a really enchanting activity … photographing the kingfisher, a kind of bird that steals the heart of everyone who is dedicated to nature photography.
These are 5 activities in one, as you have the option to practice 5 different types of photography: the first (T1) and most normal, from within the hide; the second (T2) and with a little more preparation, with the camera at the water level with flashes (or without them, if there is enough natural light); the third (T3) and complicating things a little more, with the kingfisher diving into the water with flashes; the fourth (T4), the same as T3 but different (we’ll let you know, we’re still working on it); and the fifth (T5), complicating it all even more, with the kingfisher drawing trails of light.
For now, we can offer the flash system for Sony, Canon, Olympus, Fuji and Nikon. Consult for other brands.
The place where the activity takes place is in the facilities of the Plegadis Foundation in La Ràpita, where there is a pool of water in which its maintenance is done for the conservation and observation of different species of the Ebro Delta wildlife, such as: the kingfisher itself, the squacco heron, the night heron, the little bittern, the little egret, the great egret, the rail, the reed bush, the kestrel, the western marsh harrier and many other species, that can appear at any time while we are inside the Kingfisher’s Hide. In Plegadis you can also see different species of nocturnal birds, thanks to the NOCTUA project, and some diurnal raptors, which cannot be returned to the wild for various reasons.
The pond has two hides: the Observatory Hide (max. 4 places) and the Kingfisher’s Hide (max. 2 places).

Regulations
It is important to follow the following rules of conduct so as not to scare the wildlife close to the hide, not only for when we are using it ourselves, but so that people who come in later sessions can continue to enjoy it. Therefore, the guidelines that must be followed strictly are the following:

  • It is strictly forbidden to smoke or drink alcohol inside the hide.
  • There is no way you can get out of the hide until the person coming to pick you up opens the door, unless it is an extreme health emergency.
  • The physiological needs must be done inside the hide, so a container will be made available to the customer for this purpose.
  • Highly recommended not to approach the glass while there is wildlife in front (also think we may not be seeing it but that doesn’t mean it’s not there), or to make sudden movements with arms or any object, or to clean the glass.
  • In the same way, no noise or loud blows of any kind can be made. Therefore, the mobile phone audio must be switched off and no calls can be made or answered, unless you have the need to talk to the person in charge of the stalk and he/she will call you, never the other way around. Communications will be made via mobile app.
  • You will not be able to raise your voice … if you need to make a comment, always in the lowest possible tone of voice.
  • Highly recommended to wear dark clothes, without any bright or light-colored items that stand out (for example, a drawing on the front of the t-shirt) and, if possible, gloves for the hands, so that the birds cannot detect you and so that possible reflections on the glass can affect the result of the pictures.
  • You must respect the hide and everything inside.
  • Due to confidentiality and security issues, it will not be possible to record or take images of the hide with mobile or other devices, both inside and outside, in order to show them, for instance, on social networks.
  • Follow the recommendations made by the person in charge of the hide.

Thank you in advance for your collaboration.

If in a whole session it has not been possible to take any photo of the planned ones due to the absence of the kingfisher, it can be repeated on another occasion at no additional cost.
