It have been past 3 years that we visited Menorca with family. Taking advantage of that moment, I could take a picture that I had in mind long time ago … the Milky Way in vertical just above Pont d’en Gil, which I have been able to revealing these days after so long.
Planning was done at home with the mobile app Planit for Photographers, as seen in the image, which now also gives a 3D topography and it is able to put the height of the buildings, to have a better idea of how the picture framing will be according to the point of the location.
Seeing with Google Earth that terrain was quite steep, that afternoon we went to try to find out if the location would be feasible. And we did well, because we were able to see how that area is plenty of cliffs and that it is quite dangerous, also at daylight.
So, that night and at the appointed time, the Milky Way was in right place! 😉
One of the added problems of this image, apart from the light pollution of Mallorca (in the background on the right), is the one in the urbanizations on the left (out of the frame), which had to be lowered at the processing.
The resulting image can be found in the Landscape albums in the Galleries section.
Picture details: f/2.8 – 14mm – 1/30” – ISO 1.600.
