PHOTOGRAPHIC WORKSHOP – LANDSCAPE, FULL MOON & WILDLIFE – GALLOCANTA LAGOON – 23 to 25/FEB 2024

Attention: This workshop can be combined with the one done just before, the classic one done during the week, from February 20 to 23. In this case, we would give you a discount for doing both.

In this photography workshop, designed for a maximum of 11 people, there will be the opportunity to acquire and/or deepen photographic knowledge and take, among others, images of moonrises and moonsets (24 will be full moon), and sunrises and sunsets. We will enjoy the picturesque landscape offered by the Gallocanta Lagoon and its surroundings, practicing the composition of winter scenes, at the same time we will try to capture images of the wildlife that inhabits it, whether resident or migratory (cranes, owls, roe deer, kestrels, harriers, passerines, etc).

During the workshop, there will be morning and afternoon trips to take photographs in different locations. The remaining hours of the day will be spent reviewing some important aspects of the composition and commenting on the images taken during the outings, according to these compositional criteria. In this photographic workshop there will be the opportunity to acquire and/or deepen photographic knowledge and make, among others, images of the rises and sets of the Sun. We will enjoy the picturesque landscape offered by the Laguna de Gallocanta and its surroundings, practicing the composition of autumn scenes, almost winter, while we will try to capture images of the wildlife that lives there, whether resident or migratory.

On this occasion, we will also try to photograph the Moon with some element characteristic of the area, since it will be Full on Monday the 27th.

During the course of the workshop, there will be morning and afternoon outings to take pictures in different locations. The rest of the day will be spent reviewing some important aspects of the composition and commenting on the images taken during the outings, according to these compositional criteria.

PHOTOGRAPHIC WORKSHOP AUTUMN LANDSCAPES AT RIAÑO AND PICOS DE EUROPA – 19 to 22/OCT 2023

Forests dressed in magic and colour, crystal-clear streams that sweep away the recently fallen leaves, stormy landscapes wrapped in mist… Autumn brings to the Cantabrian mountains a blanket of renewed hues, reds, yellows and oranges that prevail over the green that reappears strongly with the return of the rains. In the highlands and in some shady areas, autumn reaches its peak in October, with the sound of bellowing resounding in the twilight through valleys and wooded slopes. At the same time, at the bottom of the valleys, the poplars turn golden and shake with the wind that brings the sound of the ax preparing firewood for winter. This is the strength of the mountain… an invitation to travel at altitude and through valleys with different orientations, looking for different environmental conditions or, what is the same, different colors and different lights on the same day.

In this workshop, led by nature photographer Pep Gassó, we invite you to enjoy the autumn landscapes in the Riaño Mountain and the Picos de Europa. We will take advantage of the first and last lights of the day in spectacular locations, we will look for great panoramas but also corners full of charm and we will try to put together, at the end of the stay, an album with a variety of images that reflect our particular intimate look at the Cantabrian autumn.

Pep will guide us in this process, with theoretical expositions and practical advice that will combine technique and composition but that will be loaded above all with good experiences.

PHOTOGRAPHIC WORKSHOP – WILD MAMMALS AT CANTABRIAN MOUNTAINS – 24th to 29th/SEPT 2023 (6 days – 5 nights)

September marks the end of summer, when wildlife that inhabits the Cantabrian Mountain Range prepares to enter into the autumn, with different behaviors depending on the species. The deer enter into the rutting season, the zeal, a spectacular event, in which the males compete for the females, fighting each other to the point of exhaustion, making their bellows echo throughout the Cantabrian mountains. Iberian wolves, the great predator and soul of these mountains, continue preparing their cubs for when the winter season arrives. Wild cats take advantage of dawn and dusk to hunt and feed on voles in the meadows. And brown bears continue to eat as much as they can in order to build up enough fat to allow them to winter. A journey in which we will try to gather an exceptional collection of images that will undoubtedly bring us countless emotions and great memories.

Pep will guide us in this process, with theoretical expositions and practical advice that will combine technique and composition but will be loaded above all with good experiences.

PHOTOGRAPHIC WORKSHOP – LANDSCAPE & WILDLIFE – RIAÑO MOUNTAIN – 14 to 17/MAY 2023

May is the peak of spring in the Cantabrian Mountains, that period in which the vegetation begins to pull strongly and transforms the landscape, filling it with life and energy. In this workshop, led by nature photographer Pep Gassó, we will combine landscape photography with wildlife from hide to illustrate the Cantabrian spring in the most intimate way. Forests, mountains and valleys, glacial cirques and gorges,… We will visit the best scenarios of the Riaño Mountain to enjoy its landscape but also its wildlife. It’s the best time to photograph all the woodpeckers in the area, from the spectacular Black woodpecker, to the Middle spotted woodpecker and the Eurasian wryneck. We will find the White-throated dipper feeding the chicks, the Egyptian vultures will pose on the rocky crests of La Trébede and we will have the opportunity to photograph the Golden eagles in La Uña. For this, we will have at our disposal the full range of hides that Aveshide Crémenes has in Crémenes, Lario and Almanza. We will also enjoy the breeding season of high mountain birds, such as Rufous-tailed rock thrush and Bluethroat. A trip that will allow us to gather an exceptional collection of images that, without a doubt, will bring us countless emotions and great memories.

PHOTOGRAPHIC WORKSHOPS CHAMOIS AND BIRDS OF RIAÑO MOUNTAIN AND PICOS DE EUROPA – 3 to 7 and 7 to 11/Dec 2022

The end of autumn brings one of the great spectacles of nature in the Picos de Europa and the Riaño Mountain: the heat of the Cantabrian chamois. At this time, the females move in more or less numerous herds followed by the males. Disputes are frequent and result in dizzying chases down icy and rocky slopes, in races that seem impossible. The chamois show their best looks at this time, with dark and dense coats that protect them from the cold and give them a magnificent appearance. Just the portrait of each one of them would be worth it, but if we combine this with the possibility of capturing striking and expressive behaviors at incredible distances and in the incomparable frame of the Picos de Europa, the photographic possibilities become inexhaustible, images that will last forever in our memory.

In these workshops we will dedicate two days to chamois, trying to take advantage of the situations that present themselves to obtain a great variety of images and enjoy intensely the closeness of the animals in the high areas where we will go in search of them. We will complete the trip with a visit to the hides of Crémenes, at a time of year that is especially interesting for photographing woodpeckers, mountain birds (thrushes, scribblers, bullfinch, marsh amd crestet tits,, raptors, etc.). And of course we will always take advantage of every opportunity to immortalize the landscapes of the end of autumn in the Riaño Mountain and Picos de Europa, which will be a kind of anticipation of winter for all of us.

Pep will guide us in this process, with theoretical expositions and practical advice that will combine technique and composition but that will be loaded above all with good experiences.

For the experience to become more complete and intense, if desired, these workshops can be combined into a single 9-day workshop.

PHOTOGRAPHIC WORKSHOP – VILLAGES IN OBLIVION II – PONGA – 19th a 22nd/OCT 2022 (4 days – 3 nights)

This workshop inaugurates a new line of photographic escapades aimed at rescuing from oblivion, documenting and calling attention to the ethnographic heritage that we are losing at an ever-increasing rate and that threatens to completely transform the image that we have known until now of our peoples and of the rural world in general.

In the next decade, we will inevitably see towns and buildings disappear that were once fully functional and supported a sacrificial and hard way of life, but also happy and in connection with nature and the environment. These towns, spearhead of Rural Spain that is being abandoned, still preserve the last vestiges of traditional constructions of great interest, and in them their last settlers still resist, in general older people who will take with them the last memories of places full of charm where today we do not find enough reasons to continue living.

Pep will guide us in this process, with theoretical expositions and practical advice that will combine technique and composition but will be loaded above all with good experiences.

This workshop can be combined with the Autumn Landscape Workshop in the Riaño Mountain II, which finishes on the same day, October 19th (entry for dinner).

Regarding the Kingfisher Hide activity, we will try to carry it out, as last year, in the days left between the workshops and other prospecting activities (it is planned to make a trip to Costa Rica in September and another to Gambia in November). Remember that the Kingfisher only visits the Ebro Delta (and with a guarantee of taking photos) from August to December.

There is still a workshop on Photography with Smartphone that, due to the busy schedule, will probably be in the second half of December. We will keep you informed.

We are also very pleased to have your opinion, essential when studying new projects, so any suggestions you think may be interesting to develop new activities, will be very welcome!

PHOTOGRAPHIC WORKSHOPS BIRDS & LANDSCAPE IN LA MANCHA – 13 to 16 and 16 to 19/JUNE 2022

2022 has brought the resurgence of the El Taray Lagoon. After a long cycle of drought, this rainy spring has returned La Mancha Humid to all its splendour: the vegetation is sprouting strongly, the birds have arrived in large numbers and diversity to the lagoon, the landscapes are turning green preparing for a truly spectacular month of June, as it had been years since people lived in this area. What better opportunity to enjoy the nature of La Mancha!

In this workshop, led by photographer Pep Gassó, we will combine landscape photography with photography from hide to illustrate spring in La Mancha in the most intimate way. White-headed ducks and black-necked grebes photographed from the water, grain fields and windmills in fantastic and well-planned locations, water and dry land… a contrast of experiences and emotions that will allow us to bring together a spectacular set of images in the central moment of spring.

During the first days of the workshop, we will take advantage of the first and last lights of the day to photograph the setting and rising of the full moon, choosing the best protagonists for the foreground: Don Quixote’s windmills, castles and traditional country buildings, mosaics of crops and groves, etc. These experiences with the landscape of La Mancha will give way to days focused on wildlife photography from the hide, taking advantage of the exceptional moment in the lagoon to exploit the possibilities of hydrohide with an incredible diversity of highly attractive species such as the imperial eagle, lesser kestrel, roller, hoopoe, little owl, marsh harrier, white-headed duck, black-necked grebe, etc. And throughout this process, Pep will guide us with theoretical expositions and practical advice that will combine planning, technique and composition, but that will be loaded above all with great moments.

There are three formats or dates to enjoy this experience: from 13th to 16th June, from 16th to 19th, or to do it all these days in a single workshop, in order to get more out of visiting these wonderful places.

PHOTOGRAPHIC WORKSHOPS – BIRDS & LANDSCAPE – MONTAÑA DE RIAÑO AND PICOS DE EUROPA – 9 to 12 and 12 to 15/MAY 2022

May is the peak of spring in the Cantabrian Mountains, that period in which the vegetation begins to pull strongly and transforms the landscape, filling it with life and energy. In this workshop, led by nature photographer Pep Gassó, we will combine landscape photography with wildlife from hide to illustrate the Cantabrian spring in the most intimate way. Daffodils and forests, mountains and valleys, glacial cirques and gorges,… We will visit the best scenarios of the Riaño Mountain and the Picos de Europa National Park to enjoy its landscape but also its wildlife. It’s the best time to photograph all the woodpeckers in the area, from the spectacular Black woodpecker, to the Middle spotted woodpecker and the Eurasian wryneck. We will find the white-throated dipper feeding the chicks in the waterfall, the Egyptian vultures will pose on the rocky crests of La Trébede and we will have the opportunity to photograph the golden eagles in La Uña. For this, we will have at our disposal the full range of hides that Aveshide Crémenes has in Crémenes, Lario and Almanza, including many new features for this season. We will also enjoy the breeding season of high mountain birds, such as Rufous-tailed rock thrush and Bluethroat. A trip that will allow us to gather an exceptional collection of images that, without a doubt, will bring us countless emotions and great memories.

Pep will guide us in this process, with theoretical and practical expositions that will combine technique and composition but that will be loaded above all with good experiences.

The Picos de Europa begin to turn white in December. The autumn landscape merges with the winter one, when the chamois are in heat and the males face each other, with multiple persecutions.

In the two workshops, led by the nature photographer Pep Gassó, we invite you to enjoy the semi-winter landscapes in the Riaño Mountain and the Picos de Europa. In addition to photographing chamois and other species of Cantabrian wildlife in their natural habitat, we will take advantage of the spectacular locations to take landscape photography. In short, we will try to put together, at the end of the stay, an album with a variety of images that reflect our particular intimate view of the Cantabrian wildlife and landscape.

Pep will guide us in this process, with theoretical presentations and practical advice that will combine technique and composition but will be loaded above all with experience.

The two workshops in December will be held: the first, from Saturday 4 (entry for dinner) to Wednesday 8 (departure in the morning); and the second, from 8 (entry for dinner) to Sunday 12 (departure in the morning).

PHOTOGRAPHIC WORKSHOPS AUTUMN COLOURS AT RIAÑO AND PICOS DE EUROPA – LEÓN – 11-17/OCT 2021

Forests dressed in magic and color, crystalline streams that drag the recently fallen leaves, stormy landscapes wrapped in mist, … autumn brings to the Cantabrian mountains a cloak of renewed hues, reds, yellows and oranges that prevail over the green that is re-sprouting with force with the return of the rains. In the highlands and in some shady areas, autumn reaches its peak as early as October, with the sound of the bellowing echoing in the twilight through valleys and wooded slopes. At the same time, at the bottom of the valleys, the poplar groves turn golden and shake with the wind that brings the sound of the ax preparing the firewood for winter. This is the strength of the mountain,… an invitation to travel at altitude and travel through valleys of different orientation, looking for different environmental conditions or, what is the same, different colors and different lights on the same day.

In this workshop, by the nature photographer Pep Gassó, we invite you to enjoy the autumn landscapes in the Riaño Mountain and the Picos de Europa. We will take advantage of the first and last lights of the day in spectacular locations, we will look for great panoramic views but also charming corners and we will try to gather, at the end of the stay, an album with a variety of images that reflect our particular intimate look at the Cantabrian autumn.

Pep will guide us in this process, with theoretical presentations and practical advice that will combine technique and composition but will be loaded above all with experience.

But our objective will not only be the landscape. As a great novelty, in this second edition of this workshop we will also set the objective of photographing wildlife in their natural habitat: the bellowing of the deer, wildcats hunting gopher rats in the meadows and, if the opportunity arises, we will try to take some image of wolf with us, the great predator and the soul of these mountains.
